History 1944 - 2006:
1944
Jack Knowles Sr., after returning from Naval service in WW2 started his apprenticeship with Mr. Gordon Page. At this time he was working with coal gas created at Wharf Street and distributed throughout the greater Victoria area. The fuel was soon replaced with a butane/air mixture.
1961
Jack Knowles Sr. started his own company which was only a telephone headquartered in a building owned by Peden's Stove Store located on Johnson Street.
1965
Jack Knowles Sr. obtains a company called Stan Darling Gas Co. located at 817 Pandora Street which included the purchase of the building.
1972
Jack's son Stan Knowles commences his gas fitting career working with his father.

1973
Jack Sr. sells the building on Pandora Street in order to rent a location at 537 Fisgard Street. Jack Sr. renames the gas business in his own name "Jack W Knowles Gas Co." - thus the tradition begins...

1985
Stan Knowles opens Stan Knowles Gas Co. with only a converted milk delivery truck. Stan's son Jack Jr. starts working for a propane cylinder business in Victoria.

1988
Jack Jr. begins working for his father in Jack Knowles Gas Co. Of particular note, Jack Jr. will attain his Journeyman license in 1990; becoming one of the youngest to do so. Also, there would be a change of fuel from butane/air to a propane mixture which would eventually lead to a final change to natural gas.

1992
Jack Jr. achieves his "A" class masters gas license like his father had achieved years before.

2005
Jack Jr. sells the business to Stewart Millet with the aim of partnering to provide a more complete array of related services for residential and commercial establishments.
